Job Responsibilities of the Radiation Therapist

  • Administer radiation treatments to patients in accordance with physician prescriptions and treatment plans.
  • Prepare patients for radiation therapy procedures, ensuring proper positioning and patient comfort.
  • Operate and calibrate advanced radiation equipment to deliver safe and effective treatments.
  • Monitor patients during treatment sessions and respond to any concerns or reactions.
  • Maintain accurate treatment records, documentation, and patient progress notes.
  • Ensure equipment safety and cleanliness, performing routine quality assurance checks.
  • Collaborate with physicians, dosimetrists, and medical physicists to ensure the accuracy of treatment plans.

Requirements of Radiation Therapist:   

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy program is required.
  • Certification: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy is required.
  • Licensure: Must hold a current New Mexico Radiation Therapy license or be eligible to obtain one.
  • Skills & Abilities: Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a high-pressure, patient-centered environment.
