Job Description:

Our client in the Boston area is seeking two Pathologists’ Assistants to join their staff. These specialists are needed in the Genitourinary Pathology department and in the Neuropathology/Hematopathology department. This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the area’s premier healthcare systems, and one of the top employers in the state of Massachusetts. Responsibilities of the Pathologists’ Assistants:  

  • Collation/integration of draft elements (e.g. flow cytometry, rapid heme panel and/or laboratory values, cystoscopy reports, imaging) of reports, including review of clinical and prior laboratory findings, and review of cases at sign-out with the attending pathologist.
  • GU Pathology
  • Collation/integration of draft elements (e.g. laboratory values, cystoscopy reports, imaging) of reports, including review of clinical and prior laboratory findings and review of cases at sign-out with the attending pathologist and/or the GU pathology team (includes attendings, fellows, and residents).
  • Assistance with special study orders, tissue (block) ordering, slide retrieval.
  • Communication with outside hospitals and providers for second opinion cases to facilitate the acquisition of materials or clinical history and once final results are completed communicates results with outside referring providers and centers when required.
  • Neuro/Hemato
  • Collation/integration of draft elements (e.g. flow cytometry, rapid heme panel) of reports, including review of clinical and prior laboratory findings, and review of cases at sign-out with the attending pathologist.
  • Formal instruction and guidance of pathology residents and fellows in the handling of tissue and collation of data.
  • Communication with outside hospitals and providers for second opinion cases to facilitate the acquisition of materials or clinical history and once final results are completed communicates results with outside referring providers and centers when required.
  • Aids and supports attendings and trainees in frozen section preparation, reporting, and allocation of tissues for appropriate testing. This duty will require being on pager call during regular work hours.  

Requirements for the Pathologists’ Assistants:  

  • Must possess a master's degree from a NAACLS accredited and AAPA approved Pathologists’ Assistant Training Program.
  • ASCP certification as a Pathologists' Assistant is required.
  • Prior experience with collating laboratory data and molecular diagnostics preferred or background in genomics or relevant field preferred.
  • Prior experience with collating laboratory data and molecular diagnostics preferred or background in genomics or relevant field preferred but not required.
  • Five or more years of experience is highly desired with a preference for prior work experience in an academic setting.
